Describe yourself in three words?

Extra-terrestrial, non-conventional and beautiful.

Where are you from?

I was raised by my grandparents in Corsica, it was a very simple life, and we had no water or electricity till I was 10 years old. But we had everything we needed, provided by nature.

Can you tell us your story?

I started modelling in my 20s after my sister asked me to stand in at Paris Fashion Week. I got pregnant and married at 17 and I thought my life is over. But when I was 28, I realised I couldn’t stay with a man I didn’t love just to pay my bills. So I divorced. Work came. When you make the right choice, the universe brings. I’ve worked as a model ever since, though it wasn’t until I came to New York in 1999 that I started to work with bigger brands.

What’s your favourite workout?

Walking fast in the water at the beach and yoga. I do a little bit of exercise every day. I’ve practiced yoga for more than 30 years and I’ll spend between 30 minutes and an hour doing it each day.

3 tips for staying balanced?

Healthy food, good sleep, a lot of water. I never eat processed, frozen, microwaved or low-fat foods. Most of the time, I eat organic food and cook it fresh every day. I eat mostly vegetables, fruits, nuts and some good-quality fish and meats.

Life mantra?

Everything’s going to be ok.

What’s the secret to a healthy lifestyle?

Happiness is what makes you glow, not just the healthy food you put in your body. It’s not a question of hair, makeup or clothes. We have to realise that the beauty of it is that we are all different.

What is happiness to you?

Water. Yoga. Fresh, organic food that I cook myself. To live in a peaceful place with light and a view of the ocean. To live at my own pace, doing what I want, when I want. These are my basic needs.

Can you tell us your beauty secrets?

There is no big secret, all I have ever done is eat organic food long before it became trendy. I also love olive oil, I rub it on my skin every day. Aging is an organic, natural process that I have no power over — unless you count the power of letting go.

What advice would you give your younger self?

I never give advice, I give information. Be free and don’t judge yourself. Take advantage of how you are. As I’ve got older I’ve realised sexy means alive. I’m alive.

Chocolate or nut butter?

Both. I make my own chocolate with cocoa butter.
