Diary of a Workout Wardrobe: Susannah Taylor

Day: Tuesday
Workout: Barrecore class
Where: Barrecorre, Mayfair

It is part of my job to try new fitness classes, so on Tuesday I went to the new Barrecore studio at Cavendish Square in London. If you think Barrecore sounds like a lightweight ballet class, think again. Many postures are based on ballet moves, and you make use of the barre throughout, but this is a hardcore toning session and you end up fatiguing the individual muscles groups one by one. The owner, Niki Rein, used to work with celebrity fitness trainer Tracy Anderson, and her aim is to create a longer, leaner, tighter body. I chose the Double Time Run Tank for this class; a double layered top that I found easy to move in and very flattering - a definite plus when working out in a fully mirrored room!

 

Day: Wednesday
Workout: High intensity interval training session
Where: Freedom2Train

At least twice a week, I train with Steve Mellor - founder of personal training company Freedom2Train in the park. On this particular day, we went to Holland Park and I wore the Compression Distance Run Tights. During the session, I do hardcore high intensity rounds of resistance exercise with Steve, including rounds of press-ups, squats, core work and TRX moves before rounds of boxing. Unsurprisingly, I get very hot! The leggings were great as I felt they held me in in all the right places, whilst still allowing my skin to breathe. They really aided my recovery post-workout and dried quickly!
  


Day: Thursday
Workout: Yoga class
Where: Haybarn at Daylesford, Oxfordshire.

I work from my home in Oxfordshire on Thursdays and on this particular day I was invited to the Haybarn at Daylesford for a private yoga class with Vettri, their resident yoga expert. I am a leggings junkie and have many pairs, so I wore the super soft, ultra comfortable Chandrasana Yoga Leggings, which took me from downward dog to cobra pose with ease. I love wearing trend-led sportswear as it makes you feel good while working out. I particularly liked the bright Offshore print, which stood out in the otherwise serene environment.
 


Day: Friday
Workout: Outdoor training session
Where: Freedom2Train

This was my second session of the week with Steve from Freedom2Train. I don’t think I have ever missed a session – I always plan them into my week as I find it so refreshing to train outside. Today, we use a slam ball; a 5 kg sand-filled ball that you throw onto the ground. As it only bounces 2 inches off the ground, you have to squat very low to catch it. We also use them for weighted squats and for squatting and throwing. Steve’s clients have nicknamed it ‘the ball of doom’! For my outdoor session, I opted for the long-sleeved Champion Tee in a bright colour to lift my mood. The thumbholes meant it stayed in place throughout the session.
 


Day: Saturday
Workout: Physio
Where: Oxfordshire

This time last year, I snapped the ACL in my left knee; one of the key ligaments. I was hugely disappointed as I had hoped to compete in my first triathlon last year, but unfortunately my knee wasn’t strong enough. Since then, I have been having physio in an amazing rehabilitation clinic called Isokinetic and have signed up for the Blenheim Triathlon this summer. I did today’s physio session at my home in Oxfordshire, wearing the Finsbury Sweat. I love its super soft feel and it’s great for chilling out, throwing on to go to the gym and even dressed up with black jeans.
