The Muddy Puddle Test

posted on Tuesday, 8th October 2013 | find under Fashion , Nutrition
For the buying team, product testing is the top priority when it comes to trialling the new ranges. For the winter collection, this involved getting their hands – and the product – a bit dirty. Here’s the story behind the test that characterises this season’s Outdoor Training line.
The Challenge: Durable kit that survives the muddy puddle and keeps you warm and dry, whatever the weather.
The tech spec
Softshell fabric, water-repellent zips and waterproofed seams to keep the elements at bay, featuring especially in the All Weather Jacket and All Weather Trousers.
The test
Our athletes get muddy, very muddy. Boot-camp-in-the-park-after-a-thunderstorm-muddy! After a regiment’s worth of press-ups, burpees, crunches, sprints, jumping jacks and squats, we check if our triallers are warm and dry. If they are, the kit passes the Muddy Puddle Test.
The follow-up
While shooting in Champoluc, we wanted the outdoor training range to look muddy for the photography, so we had our model Zusannah do sit-ups until she was covered in it. After the shoot, our buyer Sally brought her clothes back to the hotel to hand-wash. The mud came right off.
The verdict
Weatherproof kit that washes easily. Bring on boot camp…
