The Collection You've Been Waiting For: Yoga Retreat

posted on Thursday, 6th March 2014 | find under How we live, What to wear, What to do
Sweaty Betty has long since been providing fitness-loving women with technical styles to enhance their practice. But with yoga retreats becoming ever more popular, finding clothing that ticks the boxes for fashion, beachside comfort and is also supportive enough for yoga, has become something of a challenge.

When faced with a single suitcase in which to fit a different daily outfit for yoga practice, post-workout relaxation, sunset swims and a flattering, on-trend look for the evening, our designers took it upon themselves to create a range that delivers everything you need in one capsule collection. Welcome to Yoga Retreat.

Meet The Designers...

A qualified yoga teacher and Yoga Buyer for Sweaty Betty, Charlotte reveals, "We wanted to create a one-stop yoga retreat panel, so you could buy all that you might need for a yoga retreat in the sunshine: swimwear, technical yoga pieces, plus luxurious layers for the day and night."

When asked to identify her favourites of this beautiful range, she nominates the Pranayama Capris. "I love them because they are so unique to Sweaty Betty in terms of the print design and styling," she explains. "They are comfortable to do yoga in, but stylish enough to wear outside of the studio."

Charlotte also picks out the Palazzo Jumpsuit, saying, "This draping piece is perfect for your practice, and can also be worn as stylish evening-wear. The elasticated waistband and tied hems means it stays in place during yoga class, while untying the hems and wearing them wide-legged creates a great look for the evening, particularly when paired with a bright lipstick and jewellery. The cross-back design is beautiful too!"

Designer Laura is the creative brain behind the flattering shapes and statement prints seen throughout the collection. She says, "The prints hailed from a 1950’s, nautical theme and the quirkiness of a British summer. I wanted to take the typical stripe which is so often seen at the beach, and give it a contemporary twist using colour and a combination of narrow and wide stripes. This can be seen on the Exhilarate Swimsuit and Purity Bikini.” She continues, “As our SS14 collection is entitled “Against The Elements”, I became inspired by extreme sports and crashing waves, and channelled this into the abstract print used on the Pranayama Capris."

Also a fan of the Palazzo Jumpsuit, Laura's favourite piece from Yoga Retreat is the Revitalise Sweater: a cropped, knitted jumper that is quick-drying and lightweight. She says, "This is such a cool, easy-to-wear piece that looks amazing when layered with bright colour pops underneath, from a vest to bikini or long-sleeved top for the winter. I really love the open knit as it makes it look so on-trend."
