Sweaty Betty's Insider Guide to Venice Beach

posted on Wednesday, 5th August 2015 | find under Fitness, Nutrition

A beautiful rose gold glow over miles of honey sand. Vibrant Latin American influence and flashes of bare skin. Everyone running, cycling or skateboarding along the boulevard, ambling between juice bars and beachside cafes. Venice Beach and the casual active lifestyle it commands was a significant source of inspiration for the Autumn Winter 2015 Tomboy collection. Whether you’ve never been to LA, enjoy the odd holiday there or consider yourself a local, Sweaty Betty’s team on the ground is here to share some of our favourite Venice Beach stomping grounds…

Sweaty Betty Venice Beach

Recently dubbed “the coolest street in the USA”, Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice Beach California is the ultimate trendy, artsy and architecturally interesting hangout. The eclectic beach vibe has attracted start-up companies, artisan farm-to-table eateries, hip fashion boutiques, bustling juice bars, and of course all the latest fitness studios.

Work out…

Yas Fitness for Athletes - Not an athlete? Don't worry, these classes are for any level and combine spin and yoga to pack in all the benefits of cardio and stretch. With G Wilson’s fantastic instruction, you’ll learn the trick to strengthen your core without a single ab crunch.

Pilates Platinum - Another star attraction on Abbot Kinney, featuring the exclusive Lagree Mega Reformer machines. Designed to take Pilates to the next level, these classes are great for experienced mat mavens ready to increase their muscle tone and strength with more advanced strength training techniques.

exhale spa - A short drive from Abbot Kinney, bordering Venice and Santa Monica, you can find the nearest exhale spa studio. You can’t go wrong with their nationally celebrated barre, yoga and TRX classes!

Stay outdoors…

You can’t go to LA and spend all your time indoors. Grab a rental bike, surf board, stand up paddle board or pair of roller blades and torch those calories while enjoying the gorgeous California sun. Rentals of most equipment are available by the hour or for very reasonable day rates.

Eat and drink…

Kreation Café – Perfect for post-workout rehydration, with a diverse selection of tonics, juices and elixirs for every wellness goal. There are also organic baked goods and salads to tempt your tastebuds – take your treats away or enjoy a time out in the picnic-style café.

Toms Café - Abbot Kinney coffee enthusiasts are in luck – this area is home to some premium roasters. Toms Café promises a quality caffeine fix in a chilled out setting – put your feet up in the astroturf outdoor lounge or sit in under the travel-themed veranda.

Gjelinas - For fresh farm-to-table sharing dishes, check out Gjelina's. Reservations are a must at this very popular restaurant. Forgot to make a booking? Head next door to the take-away counter, where you can sample some of their famous dishes.

The Tasting Kitchen - Los Angelites converge from all directions at The Tasting Kitchen. Farm-to-table food is the focus here, too. Spot the trend? Bookings in advance are essential.

Café Gratitude - No trip to LA is complete without a visit to Venice Beach’s organic meeting place Café Gratitude. Tuck into vegan dishes, desserts and drinks – all beautifully presented for well-warranted Instagram bragging.
