As the Olympic Games approaches, now is truly the time for Flying the British Flag. Sweaty Betty was inspired by athletes on the Road to Rio for the new summer collection, fusing Brazil’s exotic influence with London style.

‘After the success of London 2012, the idea of the British athlete’s journey was hugely inspiring for us this season’ says Founder and Creative Director Tamara. ‘Their inner desire to achieve fascinated me’. Combining technical fabrics with bright prints and fashion-forward designs, the new summer collection follows their journey as they explore the different corners of this captivating city. Look out for the London Edit collection later this year for more Olympic-inspired pieces.

Life’s a beach

‘The beach is central to Rio. All of the cariocas (locals) flock to the iconic Ipanema and Copacabana for endless outdoor activities from surfing to football’ says Tamara. ‘We were in awe of their body confidence, people were so comfortable in their own skin’. Inspired by the Brazilian woman, the new collection is filled with daring style lines, mesh panels and bright prints to flatter the silhouette. This season’s statement swimwear has been crafted with high cuts and sculpting padding that creates legs that go on for miles.

It’s a print thing

Fusing the worlds of art and fitness, Sweaty Betty’s range of prints create a statement look for every activity. ‘Rio is so vibrant and we were really inspired by the graffiti, colours and shapes throughout the city’ states Tamara. From tropical florals to palm trees and sunset-inspired shades, new separates channel the colours and sights of the city.

City of colour

From striking political art to the iconic Lapa Steps and the azure blue hues of the ocean, Rio is a city of colour. ‘We particularly loved Santa Teresa’ recalls Tamara, ‘the mixture of colourful tiling and quirky, unexpected graffiti was hugely inspiring’. Fluoro yoga vests, bright swimwear and colour pop details reflect the city’s bright hues.

Match point style

Take to the court in our new standout tennis range, mixing classic whites with tropical prints. This fashion-forward capsule is like nothing you’ve ever seen before. ‘We were really inspired by a beach club just outside of the city’, reflects Tamara ‘looking back to Rio’s sixties heyday we updated classic shapes with new exclusive prints’. Keep an eye out for even more pieces in June.

Technical meets fashion-forward

In true Sweaty Betty style each piece is designed to be as technical as it is on-trend. Workout and run clothes are sweat-wicking and sculpting, reversible yoga pants are high-stretch and opaque, while our sculpting swimwear is front-lined and padded.
