Day 5: 1,2,3 Stretch with Charlie Morgan

Keen yogi and Sweaty Betty Ambassador Charlie Morgan is an all-round inspiration. A fantastic yoga instructor who quit her desk job and travelled to India to follow her passion full-time, she is also the yogi behind the Get Fit 4 Free stretch video; available online to help mix up your training and stretch out your muscles throughout the 30 Day Sweat Challenge.  

Sweaty Betty sat down with Charlie ahead of the campaign to find out how she first discovered yoga, her practice of choice, and how yoga can be beneficial as a support to high-cardio workouts such as Hiitgirl.

How and when did you first discover yoga?
I first discovered yoga at my local LA Fitness gym when I was about 16 and have been practicing ever since. However, I later realised that this was simply from a workout perspective following a life-changing trip to the Himalayan Yoga Institute in 2012 when I truly did discover what yoga is really about and its amazing benefits to your mind as well body. 

What discipline of yoga do you practice, and why do you favour this over others?
I practice Dynamic Vinyasa Flow yoga. This is my preferred type of yoga as it is such a fun, upbeat and creative from of yoga. It can vary from being fast-paced and challenging with lots of exciting inversions and arm balances, but at the same time include loads of amazing stretches, openers and breathing exercises, followed by a well-deserved, sumptuous relaxation. 

What are the benefits of yoga for someone who mainly does cardio workouts such as HIIT?
Yoga is the perfect complement to any form of cardio workout. It gives the body a great chance to stretch out all of the muscle groups, which are being toned during the HIIT workouts, leaving you less prone to injury, stiffness or cramps and ensuring that the body remains supple and flexible and recovers more rapidly after high-intensity exercise. It also has huge mental benefits, which can really impact your cardio-workout progress.
