4 Fashion Cities: What to wear and where to work out
To celebrate the Fashion Week events taking place around the world, Sweaty Betty asked four international fashion bloggers to share their favourite workout looks and local workout destinations. Here they show us how to stay fit in New York, London, Paris and Milan - and how to look good doing it.
Sydney Vincent – New York City
Co-founder of East Coast vs West Coast USA lifestyle blog weperceive.com, Sydney lives and breathes the NYC fitness scene.

Where to work out: “I have taken regular barre classes for nearly three years. When I first moved to New York City last year, I tried just about every barre workout, but The Bar Method remains by far my favourite. This studio’s take on the lethal, little movements used to impact specific muscles really works for me. I supplement this low-impact torture with the high-intensity, NYC-born Soul Cycle. Mantas’ classes at the 19th Street location are the best! If you’re in New York and looking for a real challenge, get in front of a computer on Monday at noon when the new Soul Cycle booking schedule opens!”
What to wear: “NYC workout gear trends rely on adaptation. My friends and I call it “Sporty Spice”. The way to achieve such? Black. Black is at the heartbeat of New York City’s stylish soul. While there are awesome ways to incorporate colour into your workout gear (take, for instance, the rad looks of Sweaty Betty’s London Edit, mixing blacks and brights to achieve major wow-factor), black offers a blank canvas that lends to transitioning effortlessly from barre to every other “this” and “that” in a day. I’ll typically head to a Saturday morning Bar Method class in a black leggings and vest combo, polished off with a suede or leather jacket, sunnies, and an easy-wear lipstick.”
Bonnie Rakhit – London
Fashion editor and founder of luxury travel and lifestyle blog thestyletraveller.com, Bonnie always needs to be ready for the paparazzi come London Fashion Week.

Where to work out: “Recently I’ve been doing the 'Social Butterfly Program' with personal trainer Adrian Collins of Collins Fitness. It's the perfect program for city-dwelling, party-loving ladies with busy schedules. It's completely personalised to your goals, whether it's a desired body shape, re-alignment or shaping up for a specific event. He's based in East London but can also come to train you at work, home or in the park. I also supplement my training sessions with Hot Yoga at Yoga Haven. I love their easy drop-in sessions whenever you feel the need to stretch and tone in the cocooning warmth of a heated studio. It's so addictive!”
What to wear: “For high-intensity exercise and my personal training sessions, I love to add a pop of colour to my kit. Bold neons and brights always lift my mood and give me a little extra motivation. I adore this season’s Flare Woven Jacket – it’s perfect for outdoors training, with reflective stripes and a hood in case it rains. For yoga, my favourite leggings are the Isolate Capris, which come in the softest fabric and have a beautiful marble effect print. I pair it with the Railside Luxe Jacket for cool varsity style and to keep toasty warm on my walk home.”
Kenza Sadoun El Glaoui – Paris
Fashion blogger behind French style hub La Revue De Kenza, Kenza treats regular exercise and healthy eating as a style essential. That, and a wardrobe full of beautiful things.

Where to work out: “Even though Paris is not a city near the beach, the weather tends to stay mild and makes it a great place to exercise outdoors. I run a lot, ambling through Luxembourg Park or the Tuileries. The Seine waterfront near Ile Saint Louis is also a lovely spot to exercise. The view is stunning as you run along the capital’s iconic bridges and landmarks. For indoor workouts, Gym Suedoise is the place to be – the high-energy dance style workouts are impossible to beat.”
What to wear: “As the weather begins to cool off, the Ditsy Luxe Leggings and the matching Ditsy Luxe Top have a really cosy feel that makes me want to get outside and run. I like adding urban character to my workout, so the emojis here feel really playful and edgy – they remind me not to take workouts too seriously. Plus, wearing dark clothing is great for hiding the sweat when I run, and after a workout!”
Veronica Ferraro – Milan
Fashion genius behind thefashionfruit.com, Veronica recently became addicted to the endorphins of exercise – and to the satisfying combination of feeling confident and looking great in the latest looks.
Veronica wears the Sweat It Out Bra, Training Over Tee and Zero Gravity Leggings
Where to work out: “Since September last year, I’ve started working out three times a week – both in the gym and around my lovely city Milan. On sunny days I prefer to work out outside, and there are lots of dedicated places for exercise. My favourite park is Idro Montanelli Gardens in the centre of the city – it’s very quiet and perfect for a quick run. There is also outdoor exercise equipment located around Porta Nuova – the main business district of the moment. Working out for free is easy and convenient in Milan.”
What to wear: “My workout look is always the same: I love comfy leggings and crop tops. The Sweat it Out Bra under the Training Over Tee pictured here is a great combination because the bra is fashionable enough to wear alone, and just peeks through the sheer tee if I want a lightweight cover-up. I love that the Zero Gravity Leggings are made here in Italy, using the most super flattering body-sculpt fabric – they’re so lightweight I can wear them in any weather, and the design is subtle so goes with everything I own.”
