Sweaty Betty

Not a single new product makes it from sketch to stitch without undergoing rigorous trials, tests and training sessions at the hands of top athletes. Only the top-performing fabrics and styles survive.

the test:

the verdict:

No matter how slow or fast, steady or sweaty the practice, Sweaty Betty was reliably informed that every pair of yoga bottoms offer 100% coverage at no compromise to style or comfort.

the vision:

After achieving their mission to make every pair of yoga leggings 100% opaque, Sweaty Betty designers continue to strive for the best in fabric softness, flexibility and opacity.

Flowing through a series of asanas and inversions, qualified yoga instructors tested the fit and comfort of all yoga bottoms, including the reversible Urdhva, Salabasana and Visama leggings.

the vision:

Behind the scenes at ENB, the dancers rehearse for several hours a day – often wearing multiple layers they can strip off as their body temperature climbs. Sweaty Betty wanted to create a dance range that supports the perfect practice, so dancers can deliver the most spectacular performance.

the test:

the verdict:

Soft colours in fully opaque fabrics, durable elasticity and flattering fit were all key features loved by ENB's finest dancers. Following successful testing, the collection was ready for curtain call.

ENB dancers from all disciplines completed a whole day's rehearsal in key SS15 dance pieces, including the Arabesque Leotard, Coupe Short Capris and Flaunt It Dance Vest. From the smallest, most controlled plies to the biggest and boldest lifts, every product had to surpass the dancers' high standards for comfort and freedom of movement.

the test:

the result:

After spending several minutes in heavy rain – some product testers even wore Sweaty Betty's waterproof garments in the shower – the seams were carefully inspected for signs of damage or leaking. Outdoor testers had the added feat of facing the wind, so jackets needed to be both streamlined and watertight.

When #TeamSB stripped off their outer layers, there was no wet skin in sight. Rosy cheeks aside, cyclists dismounted feeling comfortable and invigorated.

Cycling through a storm delivers a certain shot of adrenaline, but only if you're protected from head to toe with fully waterproof outerwear and warm thermal inner layers. #TeamSB got their bikes at the ready and set off into the pelting rain...

the vision:

Sweaty Betty strives to combine technical swim fabrics with revolutionary designs you will be as proud to wear during a holiday swim as you are during tough pool drills. To realise this vision, no element of fashion or functionality can go overlooked...

Regular swimmers from #TeamSB jumped on the chance to wear the SS15 swimwear before anyone else. They headed for a private pool and tried every dive, stroke and turn to make sure there was sufficient coverage and support throughout, with no ballooning in the fabric or struggle to get the suits on or off.

Only once everyone had provided detailed notes on their swim experience did #TeamSB emerge from the pool. Sweaty Betty's garment tech team made some final product adjustments until every bikini and one-piece was deemed fit for aquatic excellence.

the vision:

#TeamSB only releases a new product when there's clear evidence it gets people talking. The testing lab? Sweaty Betty's London headquarters…

the verdict:

In the Sweaty Betty Support Office, designers are the first to wearer trial a new item. They wear it to meetings, when making a cup of tea, and during lunchtime fitness classes. It's only when a piece inspires a frenzy of envy and admiration that it moves onto further production…

Among the new SS15 arrivals proven to summon the Green Eyed Monster are the Cruise Retreat Shorts, Rejuvinate Retreat Knit Hoody and the Bakasana Yoga Vest.

the verdict:

Following the rise of freerunning, it's no longer enough for run kit to support you through a single range of motion. Breathable mesh panels are carefully placed over high-sweat areas and performance-enhancing fabrics are sourced to help you go the extra mile.

Sweaty Betty asked avid runners to dive under barriers, jump over obstacles and play with pace, and to report back on their comfort levels from start to finish. To test the durability of the garments, runners were also asked to perform sit-ups, planks and press-ups on wet and muddy surfaces – if the stains stuck, the product didn't.

Not only were the distinctive SS15 fabrics and honeycomb mesh considered breathable and sweat-wicking, but feedback also confirmed they were gentle on the skin. Runner's reported full range of movements when bending, twisting and jumping – making the run ranges a versatile choice for everyday workouts.
