Festive Foods for a Healthy Christmas

posted on Tuesday, 15th December 2009 | find under Fitness

Christmas is just over a week away and something I keep hearing from everyone is how the next few weeks will be full of over indulgence. Admittedly, one to many glasses of bubbly at a Christmas party and a few to many mince pies can leave you feeling less than healthy, but it doesn't have to be all bad news.

You can actually enjoy plenty of festive treats and boost your health at the same time. Try some of these foods this holiday season:

Turkey: full of a mood boosting chemical called tryptophan as well as iron, B vitamins and protein
Nuts: go for the unsalted variety and have no more than a handful a day to enjoy the minerals zinc, selnium and the detoxing effect of the antioxidants
Clementines and Satsumas: when you get one these seasonal fruits in your stocking, don't just leave it to one side, enjoy the boost of vitamin C it will give you, ideal to keep those cold and flu bugs at bay
Dark chocolate: a much healthier alternative to milk chocolate and just a square a day can have anti -ageing benefits
Smoked salmon: to get your intake of omega 3, the brain boosting fat, smoked salmon is the perfect boxing day treat
Brussel sprouts: A powerhouse of vitamins and minerals. Try to add a few to your Christmas dinner and you will feel full of vitality all day!

Ennjoy a wonderful healthy Christmas Betties!

Great site. I like the way you explain everything without using complicated terms.
