Fatty Acids help beat PMS

posted on Friday, 18th February 2011 | find under

AS if we needed another reason to eat plenty of essential fatty acids, a new study published in the Journal of Reproductive Health has revealed that essential fatty acids can help ease the pain of premenstrual syndrome.

The study from researchers in Brazil, found that after just three months, the PMS sufferers who were taking 2g of fatty acids a day reported significant improvements in their symptoms compared with the women on a placebo.

So I know you've heard it before but we can get fatty acids from oily fish, avocados, nuts, organic eggs and seeds, although it could be worth considering a dietary supplement if you're not sure you're getting enough. I love Aliment Nutrition's Omega Oil capsules and took them every day during my pregnancy, I also take them if I've had a meal that I know my body might struggle to digest since they really help your gut.

As well as PMS, fatty acids can help with IBS and digestive issues as well as skin conditions like eczema.  They work by helping the body to ward off inflammation.  They are also a vital part of any fat stripping diet and can help to make your hair all shiny and your nails luscious and healthy - so fabulous if you have a special event coming up.
