Behind the scenes with Sweaty Betty in Rio Part 2

posted on Tuesday, 12th April 2016 | find under Travel, Behind the Scenes
For the new summer collection, Sweaty Betty transports you to Rio, the vibrant city that served as the location of this season’s campaign. As summer approaches the cariocas (locals) in the city head straight to the beach from sunrise to sunset, so the beautiful coastline served as the ideal location for our summer shoot. Here Founder and Creative Director Tamara Hill-Norton shares a few of her favourite behind the scenes moments.

Life in Rio is all about the beach, a living, breathing centre of activity; it is a hub of endless motion and community. We stayed near the ocean and I loved running along the sand every morning.

On an evening run I came across the best place in Rio to watch the sunset Arpoador Rock, a spot between Ipanema and Copacabana beaches. There is an amazing atmosphere as locals and visitors alike enjoy caipirinhas and applaud the end of another day.

Lying in the shadow of Sugarloaf Mountain, Copacabana Beach is a hub of activity all year round. Lights all along the coastline ensure the beach stays illuminated at night, so locals play football and surf at all hours. I loved the body confidence on display here, locals stay active in outdoor gyms and on the sand.

With nearly two miles of white and red sand, Grumari Beach, provided a stunning backdrop to the new yoga collection. A favourite surfing spot with locals, this tranquil beach provided a peaceful escape from the bustling vibe of Rio. We even got our yoga model Aline to do a headstand on the rocks.

One of my favourite discoveries was a 60s style beach club just outside of Rio. Reminiscent of Brazil’s heyday as the holiday destination for the rich and famous, this season’s standout tennis collection came alive in this retro space.

Graffiti is not as you know it in Brazil, the streets of Rio are like an art gallery. There is an amazing creative presence throughout the city, particularly in Santa Teresa. I loved exploring the area and was captivated by the nearby Lapa Steps, the eclectic mixture of tiles is brilliantly inspiring.

The architecture of Rio’s Museum of Modern Art served as an urban location for the new Sports Luxe collection. The exhibitions inside were equally inspiring, the mixture of colours, shades and textures evolved into new season prints.
