Sweaty Betty's guide to Aspen

posted on Friday, 8th June 2018 | find under Travel
After loving our winter among the ski betties of Aspen, Colorado, we are so excited to annouce we're back for the summer season. “I visited our Aspen shop this year and experienced some of the best slopes and après ski in the world, so I am so excited we are back with our new summer collection," says Tamara Hill-Norton, Founder and Creative Director of Sweaty Betty. To celebrate our return, we've curated where to eat, stay and workout in this famous destination.

Take a hike

Aspen isn't all about skiing, come summer those slopes become excellent hiking terrain, locals literally go hiking on their lunch break here. You can head over to Ute Trail for a good workout, and take in the sweeping views of Aspen at the summit. If you prefer shortcuts but still want a stellar view, you can take a gondola ride up to the top of Aspen Mountain. We recommend lacing up your hiking boots though and trying out the American Lake Trail for wild flowers, bubbling brooks and breathtaking views.

O2 Aspen

Part boutique, part spa, part studio, we love O2 Aspen for their Pilates and yoga classes. If you can't live a week without the reformer this is the studio for you, as it's one of the only places in town with machines and equipment.

Arunja Hot Yoga

The idea place to stretch out any aches, this airy, heated yoga studio is famous for its challenging Ashtanga classes. Head to Arunja Hot Yoga to escape for an hour of zen.

aspen food

Pyramid Bistro

If you've eaten a bit too much pizza, pasta and fondue, then Pyramid Bistro may be the answer. Head Chef Martin Oswald trained at health resorts in the Austrian mountains, so expect fresh, healthy salads and locally sourced organic ingredients.

Nobu's Aspen outpost, Matusuhisa is a must-visit for a date night, though warning, on busy weekends, reservations book out as early as a month in advance. If you do manage to get a table, try the jalapeño yellowtail, and sashimi, you won't regret it.

White House Tavern

If you're looking for the authentic Aspen experience, then White House Tavern is the place. Set in an adorable, white Carpenter Gothic house with a signature red door, head here for comfort food and cocktails amongst the rustic decor.

little nell aspen

The Little Nell

Aspen's most famous luxury resort, The Little Nell is the home for the see-and-be-seen scene the town is known for. Enjoy heated marble bathrooms, cozy fireplaces, mountain views, incredible service and a cocktail or two at Ajax Tavern.

Hotel Jerome

The historic Hotel Jerome was Aspen's first hotel when it opened over 120 years ago. Still housed in the original building, you'll be greeted by cowboys to this traditional destination with warm and stately decor and a luxe spa.

aspen music fest

Aspen Art Museum

As much as we love to ski and apres, there's a lot more to the town than winter sports. Aspen Art Museum hosts some of the world's best contemporary artists for group and solo exhibitions year-round.

Get your culture fix

In summer you'll find outdoor concerts and farmers markets, jazz and documentary festivals and the Aspen Ideas Festival for a culture fix like nowhere else. The Aspen Music Festival is another highlight of the summer season, we recommend bringing a blanket, picking up some wine and cheese and sitting under the aspen trees to listen to Beethoven.

On your bike

If hiking isn't your thing, take it to two wheels and ride your way through Aspen's rocky roads. Our tip the Rio Grande Trail runs along the scenic Roaring Trail River and has lots of scenic picnic spots on the way #balance.
