5 January Detox Tips

Eat your greens

Make sure to eat at least five cups of fresh, leafy greens every day! It’s the secret to glowing skin, deeply hydrated cells, healthy digestion, a strong microbiome and a body that functions optimally.

Adios alcohol

A few weeks away from alcohol is a great way to beat bloat, clear your skin and allow the body to detoxify. To prevent any feelings of deprivation, replace your nightly glass of wine with a piece of dark chocolate (at least 70%). Our CBD Chocolate is made with cannabidiol, a natural chemical compound in the hemp plant that soothes anxiety, lifts the mood and relaxes the body.

Deep Breaths

Control stress by practicing deep breathing exercises. This ritual will lower cortisol, the stress hormone that contributes to weight gain and help with digestion. Incorporate a daily meditation practice as well, even if it’s just 10 minutes in the morning or at bedtime. We use The Inscape Meditation app, there are loads of guided meditations to choose from.

Look after your gut

Sip a digestive tea! We've created our own made with functional bitter herbs like gentian to activate the liver, which not only detoxifies the body but also stimulates the production of digestive enzymes. This will reduce bloat and help you make the most of the nutrition in your meals. To boost your digestion even further, take a daily probiotic supplement. A healthy gut microbiome is the key to healthy digestion, immunity, hormone balance and more.

Total Body Reset

The habits and rituals you set in January will serve you all year long (and beyond). If you're unsure where to start why not try Sakara’s 20-day Total Body Reset if you are in the US (sorry UK readers). We’ll give you all the tools you need to hit the reset button on your body and start the New Year feeling your best - 4 weeks of clean meals, wellness-related gifts and exclusive content to inspire you.

Three burning questions

Describe your morning routine?

W: I usually start my day with a Sakara Beauty Water, which has silica to help keep my skin healthy, hydrated and clear. Right now I’m very into dry brushing as a detoxifying technique, so I do that before I hop in the shower. And I swear by Biologique Recherche P50 for an instant facial!

D: I reserve some quiet time every morning before even looking at my phone to meditate with my husband and set my intentions for the day. When I get to the office, I make a cup of coffee with almond milk and a little bit of ghee for an extra energy boost.

Your favourite workout and why?

Yoga is ideal for stretching the muscles, increasing flexibility, releasing tension throughout the body and even aiding digestion and reducing bloat. Kula Yoga is one of our favorite studios here in NYC. When we're not doing yoga, Taryn Toomey’s The Class is another favourite. It’s more than a workout, it’s a spiritual awakening. We also love SLT and Ballet Beautiful!

3. What five items would we always find in your fridge?

Lots of leafy greens and other seasonal, organic veggies.
Sakara Superfood Salad Dressings (to go with the aforementioned greens…plus, you need healthy fats to help your body absorb all the nutrients in your veggies!).
A Soma carafe to filter the toxins out of our tap water.
A bar of good quality dark chocolate.
Sakara Night Water, aka the perfect nightcap after you’ve had a few glasses of wine…no hangover, guaranteed!
