Introducing Neon Floral: This Season's Must-Have Print

The new Autumn 2014 collection has only just launched in-store and online, but for the Sweaty Betty designers, this collection has been a year in the making. The name ‘Hidden Treasures In An Urban Jungle’ was inspired by a trip to Milan (read all about it on Tamara’s blog), but it was up to the designer of each product range to decide how this name would develop into activewear.

We went behind the scenes with the design team to find out the story behind the beautiful Neon Floral print...

For Sweaty Betty designer Laura, the theme took her to London’s botanical Kew Gardens. On the hunt for inspiration, she began taking photos of individual flowers, from hydrangeas to begonias. Designing for yoga, Laura wanted to create a bold print that was both edgy and feminine, and that captured the strength of the yogi.

Back in the design studio, Laura cut the flowers from the backgrounds and combined them in a beautiful floral collage. She used a filter to invert the colours – blacking out the main colours and brightening up the outlines. Inspired by the bright purple lights on the outside of London’s Kings Cross station, she was keen to find just the right hue of purple to contrast against the black.

Laura’s beautiful Neon Floral design could almost be mistaken for graffiti. While Laura admits this wasn’t intentional, she says, “I quite like that people think it looks like graffiti as it gives it an even edgier vibe and ties in nicely with other lines across the Autumn 2014 collection.”

This standout print can be seen on the Salabasana Capris, Bikram Yoga Shorts and Pranayama Capris.
