Hi Betties! It's been a long time since I put finger to keyboard to catch up with you guys on all things fitness and fabulousness! I've been a exceptionally busy Betty in the last few weeks, the marathon at the end of April, followed by a weekend in Slovenia training with kettlebells, followed by moving house, followed by climbing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks this weekend just gone! Sheesh, I need a holiday!! But since I'm here, I thought I should first write a little somethin' somethin' about how the marathon went!
Well the day couldn't have been better!! Not too hot, not too cold, just the right temperature for a 26.2 mile saunter!! Now I don't know if you remember, but in training, I was all about the shorter, sharper distances, rather than lots of long runs, as most marathon programmes suggest. Why? It's just a little theory of mine. I already know that shorter interval training works wonders for your speed in endurance, and not vice versa, so I was all about less time spent training for greater gains. What that meant was, that my legs were fresher going into it, I ran stronger through it, and recovered very quickly after it!! I swiped 7 minutes off my time with a 4:03 finish. But never mind me, Jess who got 5:30 in her last marathon, got 3:47 in this one!!!!! Again, what was different about her training? Ditching the long slow stuff, for shorter, harder workouts, and of course never denying the body of endless squats and lunges, every week!
I've entered Oslo marathon in September to try and crack the 4 hour mark. So I'll be hitting the track and hills with a vengeance very shortly!!! Today I'm off to rain with the English Womens Rugby Team who are tipped to win the world championships this year. Is I scared? YES!!!
