Flying the British Flag

Flying the British Flag is something Sweaty Betty has proudly done since opening its first boutique in Notting Hill 1998. So the name for the new Spring Summer 2016 feels particularly powerful. Inspired by the upcoming Olympics, the collection combines the colours and silhouettes of Rio with British tailoring. ‘I loved the idea of following the struggle made by young Olympic hopefuls,’ says Sweaty Betty Founder and Creative Director Tamara, ‘they are so driven by an inner desire to achieve.’ From carnival-worthy prints to geometric styles inspired by the beach boardwalk tiles, every piece is designed to take the British athlete on a South American adventure through the eyes of Sweaty Betty.

Body-sculpting heroes

‘I loved how happy people were in their skin in Brazil,’ says Tamara, ‘people work out because they love it.’ Inspired by the body-confidence of the Cariocas this season’s leggings are our most daring yet with style lines to accentuate your bum. Look out for silhouette-shaping pieces that celebrate the female form, cropped and cut-away tops for dramatic styling and a wide selection of printed leggings to bring personality into every look.

Say it with print

‘Quirky, unexpected and graphic’ is how Tamara describes this season’s prints. ‘Iconic tiled pavements and urban graffiti were everywhere, providing a flash of colour across the city.’ In fact, SS16 offers Sweaty Betty’s greatest diversity of prints, with everything from bright boardwalk tiles and street art to carnival displays and tropical landscapes influencing the collection’s statement designs.

Sixties chic

In the sixties Rio really came into its own, and after discovering a James Bond-esque beach club a little way out of Rio, we were inspired to explore the city’s colourful past.’ This translated to cropped styles, high-waisted bikinis and bright floral prints reminiscent of Rio’s heyday. Look out for the exclusive London Edit collection coming later this year, which fuses 1960s British style with futuristic fabrics and technology.

The architecture of style

Fusing fashion-inspired shapes with technical fabrics, Sweaty Betty’s new season collection proves you can take your workout wardrobe out of the studio. ‘The contrast between the 19th century Portuguese mansions with colourful tiles and the concrete exterior of the modern art museum downtown was hugely inspiring’ says Tamara. Fusing architectural shapes with technical fabrics, the new Sports Luxe range revolutionises sports-inspired streetwear for a new take on active living. With everything from off-duty dungarees, to oversized knits and our first ever sweat dress, be prepared to meet some of the hardest working pieces in your wardrobe.
