Sweaty Betty Insider Guide to Tunbridge Wells

posted on Thursday, 30th January 2014 | find under Tamara, Fitness, Nutrition
As the Roadshow team pack their bags and wave goodbye to Tunbridge Wells, the retail team are moving in with the beautiful new Tunbridge Wells boutique, open from Friday 31st February. After spending a very busy month exploring the best of what Tunbridge Wells has to offer, the Roadshow team wanted to share their top picks of places to eat, drink and workout in the area.

Eat & Drink
Perfect for coffee and cake or a quick yet indulgent lunch stop, the lovely Juliets cafe is located just across from the new SB store. The mismatched cups and saucers (some of which are adorned with Prince Charles and Princess Diana) make it feel like a quirky little home from home. They offer a new menu daily, and the homemade cakes are to die for - thank goodness we had a range of high intensity classes to keep our waistlines in check! Their Victoria Sponge is famous in Tunbridge Wells and even gets its own plate and display in the window to tempt passers-by!

The Tunbridge Wells Bar & Grill quickly became the Roadshow team's favourite place to hang out and feel the buzz of the town. Known for its champagne and lobster, it is a cool, trendy place to meet with friends after work or have a romantic meal in the new, outside-in area. Despite being popular, it still manages to feel exclusive, particularly with its open kitchen and swanky bar. Highly recommended for anytime of year.

Do Pilates

The instructors at Studio One Pilates tailor every session to your needs, providing personal service to help your body function at its best. Offering the best Pilates equipment in Tunbridge Wells with reformers, Cadillacs and a Gyrotonic machine, they take a much calmer approach to exercise with Pilates ball and mat classes that focus on engaging the core.
Practice Yoga

If you're a keen yogi who is used to the high standards of the power yoga studios in London, Freestyle Yoga Project is your go-to in Tunbridge Wells. Co-founded by Sweaty Betty ambassador Anna (with her husband and fellow yogi Mark), FYP offer sessions for all abilities but are particularly known for their strong Vinyasa classes.

Connect body and mind at Pantiles Yoga - a beautiful, tranquil studio with colourful mats, candles and incense burning and filled with content yogis. We soon came to realise this place was guaranteed to leave us feeling amazing, and ready to face the world again.

The chilly weather made the Roadshow team crave the warmth, so we were more than happy to try out Wells Hot Yoga - an instant favourite with the team. Tucked away at the top end of the town, this peaceful studio offers a hot Hatha-style class perfect for everyone from beginners to experienced yogis.
Go running
Founded by our ambassador Sarah, Sarah's Runners is a fun, encouraging and supportive group who welcome runners of all abilities. With Sarah's direction and help from their unique support coaches, they operate under the key principle that no-one is made to run faster than they feel comfortable with, and no-one gets left behind. They find flat routes for beginners (which in Tunbridge Wells is not an easy task!), with hills and tough terrain for the more advanced. Their routes make the most of the town's sights and sometimes enjoy a bit of window shopping along the High Street. And the best part? There's cake at the end!

Being a team full of early birds, the majority of the Roadshow prefer to get up and seize the day - and what better way to blow the cobwebs away than with a bootcamp on the Tunbridge Wells Common. The aptly-named Fit for a Princess is made up of a great group of ladies doing push ups and planks in all weathers. This is a hardcore bootcamp session - not for the faint-hearted!

If you find yourself getting bored with the same exercises and fitness equipment, head to Cordio Studio. Their huge variety of different equipment works your core to the max, while their mix of classes include Barre, bootcamp reformers, TRX and spin bikes. Blasting all areas of the body, the classes are intense, but the results are fabulous in just a short space of time.

Short of time but still want to workout? The new Pure Power Plate studio have just opened their doors after a pop-up in department store Hoopers. Head there for a quick blast on the powerplate before a great cardio session on the new interval spin bikes - a fantastic, results-driven workout.
