Our Favourite Fusion Fitness Classes of 2014

Over the last 12 months, hot new fitness trends have arrived in abundance, with a particular few taking the workout world by storm and turning 2013 into the year of SoulCycle, Barrecore and HIIT. Looking ahead to the ever-expanding landscape of sporting innovation, the exercise community are already set to make 2014 the year of fusion fitness.

From cardio-craving yogis to Spinning fanatics looking to tone their triceps, the new realm of fusion fitness spans a wide variety of specifically-designed classes offering the ultimate in new-and-improved, body-toning workouts. Inspired by our January Guest Instructor Event, Cardiolates, here are my top 5 fusion-fitness classes to try in 2014.

1. Cardiolates
The inspirational instructors of London's TenPilates studio have just launched high-energy class, Cardiolates. Designed to produce quick, effective results, this 'unapologetically challenging' workout combines Spinning with Reformer Pilates, aiming to build endurance, sculpt the body and improve strength and posture. Sweaty Betty customers took advantage of the body-toning benefits of Cardiolates at the Guest Instructor Event on 15th January, stretching and cycling to their full potential. 

2. Aquacycling
A firm favourite on the New York City fitness scene, Aquacycling is a more intense version of Spinning where the bike is submerged in water. The addition of water increases resistance and works the back and core harder than your regular Spin class. This low-impact, high-results class is available in UK studios such as London's Hydrofit and fitness club AquAllure, and at the Aqua studio in TriBeCa, NYC.

3. Piloxing
Already popular in the US, non-stop cardio class, Piloxing, is a combination of standing Pilates, boxing and dance. The class, that involves wearing weighted boxing gloves and working out to music, was designed to boost cardiovascular health, fat burning and muscle toning. Sweaty Betty fans got a taste of this up-and-coming workout in our Richmond store last year, to great success. Piloxing is currently available at NYC's Elements studio in TriBeCa and at Push Studios in East Dulwich, UK. 

4. BoxingYoga
Those who regularly attend Sweaty Betty's Guest Instructor Events may remember the BoxingYoga class that we held in August 2013. Conceived by boxer Matt Garcia and contemporary dancer Kajza Ekberg, this innovative workout draws upon boxing techniques and Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga to improve mental strength, physical fitness and flexibility. 5. Ballet Bootcamp
Hot on the heels of dance-inspired barre fitness, Ballet Bootcamp is the hot new body-sculpting class that fuses the posture-correcting movements of classical ballet with yoga and conditioning workouts. Moving from first position to fifth with a mix of planks, press-ups and cardio exercises, the class lengthens and strengthens the body and hones the physique. Ballet Bootcamp is currently offered at NYC's ChaiseElements studio in Grammercy, and will soon be available as part of Sweaty Betty's Get Fit 4 Free campaign throughout February.
