A Tale of Two Cities: The best dance studios and classes in NY-LON

The Sweaty Betty team has scoured the streets of New York and London in search of the very best places to dance. Our favourite studios and classes are where you’ll find top instructors offering inspiring workouts that will help you create that long, lean and super desirable dancers’ physique; picture Natalie Portman in Black Swan…
Long-time Sweaty Betty favourite, FRAME is an on-trend, Shoreditch studio where the cardio-dance workouts will inspire you to get moving. Flex out at the Bend It Like Barbie class, or reach your max in the Sweat Factor.

At DANCEWORKS in London’s Mayfair the fast-paced classes range from Classical Ballet to Dance Burn and for aspiring West End stars there’s Musical Theatre. Or, head to the eponymous Pineapple Dance Studios, in buzzing Covent Garden, a Mecca for dancers since 1979. The former pineapple warehouse, launched to break down the elitist barriers surrounding dance, boasts over 40 classes. Step in to be part of one the coolest studios in the capital.
And if you can’t get out of the house, Sleek Technique, who mastered the ballet bootcamp for our Spring Summer Get Fit 4 Free campaign, has two-way live classes and streamed, online workouts. What’s more, instructor Bonnie Parker is Angelina Jolie’s body double. Really…
What to wear? To get a feminine look with an urban edge team Pas De Chat Dance Shorts with Adagio Dance Leggings and Pas De Deux Knit, accessorise with Chaines Leqwarmers to complete the look.

New York
New York women, with a love of dance, make a bee-line for Simone de la Rue’s Body By Simone, studio. Simone is an Ambassador at our SoHo store. Her 45-minute, Re-Energize cardio-inspired class, aims to ‘electrify your mind, body and spirit’.
Meanwhile at AKT In Motion Happy Hour doesn’t involve cocktails, it’s a dance-based interval training class set to ‘hot, heart-pumping music’. Advanced dancers get their cardio fix in S&M (Smoke and Mirrors), a progressive class that mixes dance cardio with strength and flexibility intervals.
And if aerobic and anaerobic training, high intensity sprints, cardio endurance, and muscular toning are your thing 305 Fitness will, ‘turn your workout into a party’ with live DJs on the decks to inspire your moves.
What to wear? Make a statement with the Devant Dance Leotard then layer with Allegro Knit Dance Jumper and Connection Dance Capris post-workout.
