On Location

With January fast approaching, Sweaty Betty SS17 is go, go, go. I have spent the last few months in styling meetings and on set as we prepare one of my favourite collections yet. Our first shoot took place in London in a huge warehouse with Charlotte Wiggins, a model I love. She is a Liverpool girl and was so much fun to have on the shoot, she really bought the collection to life, see a sneak preview above.

Marrakech moments

Then on to Marrakech for our summer shoot. I’ve spent a lot of time in Morocco over the years, so seeing these pieces come to life there was really special. We stayed in Riad Yamina in the heart of the Medina. This was the perfect tranquil spot after days spent with camels, a large crew and general mayhem. The food there was absolutely amazing, the chefs made us vegetarian feasts every night, with a mezze of quinoa salads, tagines, pomegranates and couscous. I can’t even describe how delicious it was.
Hola Barcelona!

Prior to this the design team and I headed to Barcelona, a vibrant, sun-drenched city of colourful buildings, contemporary art, frescoes and Gaudi architecture. We spent five days there soaking up the sun and sites. We stayed in a really cool Air Bnb in the Gothic Quarter and immersed ourselves in the culture of this vibrant city, particularly the amazing architecture. I was blown away by Sagreda Familia. One of Gaudi’s most famous works in the city, this church has been under construction since 1882 and the sheer size and construction was just breath-taking. I also loved the Walden 7, a structure of architectural magnitude in West Barcelona.

Kale-ing it

No Sweaty Betty design trip is complete without sampling the local cuisine. Alongside cronuts, green juices and aperol spritz, my absolute highlight was Flax & Kale, a health café offering refined organic cooking on a beautiful rooftop. We had acai bowls, delicious Californian-style salads and gluten-free bagels as we looked over the city. In fact we loved it so much we went three times. We also loved Brunch & Cake which more than lived up to its name, though can I add the salads were incredible.

When we weren’t eating, I also discovered my ideal concept store Jaime Beriestain. It's a café-restaurant hybrid which sells magazines, books, flowers, furniture and more alongside a really cool cocktail bar, I could have spent hours in there.

Yoga, Party, Repeat

Niki Perry is one of my oldest friends and when I’m in West Wittering you’ll often find me practicing yoga in her beautiful studio. It was amazing to support her at the launch of her DVD Transform Now at Grace Belgravia along with our friend Kate. She is an amazing yoga teacher and £1 from each DVD goes to a great cause, the Africa Yoga Project which teaches 300 weekly classes to 6000 people in deprived areas.
The good, the bag and the beautiful

With December in full swing my mind has naturally turned to gifting and I’ve decided that 2016 is all about bags. My daughters are hoping for the All Sport Backpack for their new school bag, and I have my eye on the fluoro version for brightening up a dark winter coat and extra visibility when I cycle along the river.
Working Out: Ballet Bootcamp enCORE

I swear by Barrecore every week for butt toning and now thanks to our latest free online workout video I can also do a ballet-based workout at home. Our last Ballet Bootcamp workout has received over a million views on YouTube so it’s safe to say I had high expectations for enCORE. Luckily it more than lived up to my expectations; this 35 minute video always leaves me with sore abs and shaking legs.

British Fashion Awards

Finally, last week Simon and I were lucky enough to attend the British Fashion Awards at the Royal Albert Hall. It was amazing to go along and to see so many iconic members of the industry in one room. As much as the girls in the office and my daughters were excited I saw Gigi Hadid (who is as beautiful as you imagine in the flesh), I really enjoyed seeing Ralph Lauren being awarded an Outstanding Achievment Award by David Beckham.

Demna Gvasalia status as fashion's wonder du jour was also confirmed as he scooped up two prizes. Seeing the shift from refined luxury to street luxury has been fascinating, as sportswear has begun to infiltrate the market. It's a really interesting time in fashion and I can't wait to see what happens as he continues to shake up the norms of the it-piece.
