Meet Natasha Corrett of Honestly Healthy

The self-confessed queen of green, Natasha Corrett started Honestly Healthy as a meal delivery service, before expanding to supper clubs, four cookbooks, an app and now a fitness and nutrition plan. To coincide with the launch of the Green and Lean Challenge (which features a few Sweaty Betty outfits), we caught up with Natasha to talk all things health.

Where did the idea of the Green and Lean Plan come from?

I first came up with the idea for Green and Lean in the run-up to my wedding in the summer of 2015. I already ate well and exercised regularly but had slipped into some poor habits, so I was looking for structure and inspiration to keep me motivated.
Unfortunately, I was disappointed that no sustainable, affordable, vegetarian plans existed that I wanted to trust with my health – so I decided to create one! I committed to devising the perfect food and fitness plan that would leave me leaner and feeling confident in my wedding dress. But, would also keep me full, enjoying exercise, feeling energetic, would reduce bloating, clear up my skin and keep the good habits going long after the 12 weeks were up. It worked, so I put it out there for everyone else to benefit from too!

Can you slot the plan into a busy lifestyle?

Yes! That’s the whole idea – I don’t think eating well and moving our bodies should take over our entire lives and thought processes, they should slot easily into our existing lives to enhance them. The HIIT workouts only take 30 minutes out of your day, which nearly everyone can slot in.

What are your three top tips for people getting started?

1. Don’t give up – the hardest part is the initial one to two weeks when your body is adjusting, stay strong at the beginning and the rest becomes second nature.

2. Find support from people around you, join up with a friend or partner so you can motivate each other, and use #GreenandLean to keep yourself accountable and on track.

3. Know that it is a lifestyle change and not a quick fix, focus on the health benefits first and once these are aligned any physical goals you have will fall into place.

Failsafe workout on the plan?

HIIT! I’m all about HIIT, it’s over so quickly but sets you up energized and in fat-burning mode for the rest of the day.

How do you stay motivated to work out and eat healthily?

I know that I feel my best when I do. I always allow myself a treat and a rest when I need them as they’re important for an optimally healthy life, but I always get back on track because I feel more confident in my skin when I eat well and workout regularly.

Do you recommend eating before a workout?

It’s not necessary but we recommend doing your HIIT workout at the start of the day to get you on track! If you can’t face food early, it’s fine to work out before breakfast.

If the idea of working out on empty makes you feel faint, then just have something small - like half of your post-workout smoothie, a banana or a couple of rice cakes.

Being vegetarian, how do you ensure you get enough protein?

I add plant protein to my smoothies and also eat eggs, grains, nuts, tempeh occasionally, and loads of veggies, which all contain adequate protein.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

I seriously love Booja Booja’s new ice cream flavours right now and I can always make room for a good pizza.

What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve received?

Never give up, always be agile and don’t be afraid to take risks.
