Behind the scenes of SS12

posted on Thursday, 5th January 2012 | find under Fashion

Design inspiration for the latest Sweat Betty collection, Champion, stems from looking back to the games of Ancient Greece and Greek goddesses, as well as looking to the future at what inspires strong, powerful sports women.

A photoshoot with supermodel Christy Turlington featured in W magazine, in 2008, helped channel the ‘champion’ feel with its strong lines on Christy’s athletic, goddess like body.

The use of latticing detail, Tron-like lines and cut-out shapes in recent collections from British designers, such as Mark Fast and Jonathan Saunders, also played a role in shaping Champion.

Goddess Hera, from the film Jason and the Argonauts and a beautiful vintage dress from a Knightsbridge boutique (owned by our CEOs mother) brought to life the pleating and softness seen in the designs of the Ancient Greeks.
