Yoga In'spire'ation

posted on Wednesday, 30th May 2012 | find under

Yoga practice in the serene St Giles Church in Oxford was definitely a highlight for the Road Show team during their time spent in the city of dreaming spires. They grabbed a chat with professional dancer turned yoga instructor, Stephanie Ross-Russell, to find out what makes her tick (other than teaching in such an inspiring setting – not that we’re jealous)...

What is your favourite yoga pose?
Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward facing dog) - Like visiting a new place and coming home at the same time.

Yoga, how did you get started and why?
I had tried Yoga as a dancer but never connected with any of my instructors.  Now I know that I was just not ready yet. When my triplets (all boys!) were 2 years old, I was climbing the walls with exhaustion. One day after a long day teaching Pilates I just couldn’t face going home to another evening of feeding, bathing and putting to bed.  As I walked to my car I saw a flyer placed on my windscreen for a Yoga class starting nearby and in 10 minutes. I called my husband and asked him if he could hold the fort for a couple of hours and went to the class.  It has been my pillar and my compass and I have been practicing ever since.
