Snowy, a white dwarf lop-eared rabbit that belongs to Daisy (aged eight) is the main beneficiary of our paper recycling policy (for those of you re-visiting these pages I am afraid Thomas the rabbit has been 'replaced' by Snowy). Our shredded paper (minus any staples - ouch) provides warm and dry bedding for Snowy all year round. All she needs now is a bunny friend, although we don't generate enough waste for lots of baby bunnies!

We know that cycling to work not only helps to save the planet but also gives you a pert bum! So we have signed up to the Cycle to Work Scheme to allow everyone a tax free bicycle to travel to work on. We feel particularly virtuous when people are fighting over the last spot on the railings to lock their bikes to. |
However hard we try we cannot seem to get plastic out of our business - I expect the Earth feels the same way. We successfully changed our plastic hangers and plastic carrier bags to wood and recyclable paper in 2004. We continue to reduce plastic packaging in stores with a big initiative in 2009 focussed on accessory packaging (think swimming caps coming in plastic cartons!). The latest dilemma is how to send catalogues in the mail which requires a protective clear wrapper. We rejected regular plastic bags and have opted for the more expensive 'oxy degradable' plastic while we search for a more ecological alternative.

We want you to walk past your local Sweaty Betty with the window nicely illuminated on your way to work, on your way home and perhaps as you stumble out of the bar! But we don't want to burn holes in the ozone layer all night. DILEMMA? SOLVED brilliantly in 2004 with the introduction of timers in all shops. Why didn't we think of that earlier?

COPY WASTE COPY WASTE COPY WASTE COPY WASTE COPY WASTE COPY WASTE COPY WASTE COPY WASTE COPY WASTE COPY WASTE COPY WASTE COPY WASTE COPY WASTE COPY WASTE COPY WASTE That is what a photocopier does - so we don't have any, even though it makes Office Christmas parties more dull!

Enzo and Allesandra live in Italy where they run a family fashion business. We first stocked their product in 1999 and ten years on we continue our annual visits to see their network of Italian cutters and seamstresses. We only use accredited suppliers who agree to abide by our stringent Supplier Manual and it is a special pleasure when they become good friends like Enzo and Allesandra.

We believe diversity breeds creativity and prevents complacency. So we enjoy working with Betties from all corners of the world. Our highest count to date is 19 different nationalities working together at sweatyBetty, fortunately everyone speaks English!

Did you know that small businesses account for over half of the jobs in the UK and generate almost all the new jobs in the UK economy (Office for National Statistics, 2005)? We are pleased to be playing our part and especially proud to have created over 150 jobs from scratch since we started sweatyBetty!

We are always doing something daft to raise money for charity, whether it's taking our bras off for a bra amnesty, running for miles in the rain or cycling from London to Brighton! It feels good to give something back so when we can we do (even if it sometimes hurts!).
